In his first month in office, CJI Lalit makes a number of landmark decisions.
NEW DELHI: Within a month of CJI UU Lalit's appointment as the 49th CJI, the nation's highest court, along with attorneys, media, and the general public, have seen several firsts in judicial developments. Lalit had ambitious intentions set forth for his brief, against-the-clock term on August 27 when he took office.
Lalit has been actively making positive strides in fast succession by introducing a prompt and methodical listing of cases since his first day on the job in order to keep his commitments. On non-miscellaneous days (NMDs), which are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, judges first take up previous matters in the new system that he also introduced.

After October 8, when the supreme court reopens two days later, Chief Justice Lalit won't be able to hold a collegium meeting due to the one-month norm. After a collegium meeting scheduled on September 30, the last working day before the Dussehra holiday, was cancelled due to Justice Chandrachud hearing cases till 9 p.m., the Chief Justice of India distributed a written proposal.
